HAWTHORN (Cretaegus Oxycantha)
Our spring-harvested flowers and leaves and our autumn-harvested hawthorn berries are handpicked from indigenous wild trees in the pristine lake areas of the BC Interior of Western Canada. Hawthorn has been recognized for hundreds of years as an excellent nutritive and restorative tonic for the heart and blood vessels. Its principal benefits in traditional medicine include strengthening and invigorating the heart and circulatory system. Its Cretaegus content has been shown to enhance the tissue structure of the heart cavities optimizing their resistance to injury. Hawthorn's many other benefits have been recognized in a broad array of clinical trials, as indicated by the monographs below:
Treatment for Congestive Heart Failure Dramatically increases contractility - WHO Strengthens the Heart and Circulatory System Reduces Arrythmia and Tachycardia Improvement in Geriatric Heart Disease Increases Oxygen Levels in The Heart Improves Ventricular Ejection Fraction
NOTES: 1. It should be noted that the German Commission E Monograph is based on "historical record and experience" and that "no contra-indications or side effects are noted" when hawthorn is taken alone. 2. If combining with pharmaceutical medicine, however, it is strongly recommended that the consumer consult with their health care professional or pharmacist. 3. Caplets and standardised extracts used in clinical trials are not produced from fresh certified organic sources. The additional benefits that might derive from using such sources are therefore at present unestablished.
BILBERRY (Vaccinium myrtillus)
In traditional medicine, Bilberry Extract - high in anthocyanosides - has been used as a powerful antioxident to encourage healthy capillaries & veins by helping dilate and cleanse delicate blood vessels. It is believed that this action encourages the gradual replacement of damaged or blocked arteries with a fine web of healthy capillaries and veins in a natural process known as collateralization. It involves the redistribution of micro-vascular blood flow. Carefully blended in the correct proportions, bilberry is an important ingredient in effective heart medication, as the following Clinical Abstracts will attest:
Improves rhythmical contraction of blood vessels Aids diabetic vascular disease Helps redistribute micro-vascular blood flow
