A Note from the President
My parents lived through two world wars and the Great Depression - times of great stress and hardship. My father died from a stroke at the age of 51 after a history of angina, arrhythmia, high cholesterol, hypertension and myocardial infarctions. My mother suffered from cardio-vascular disease that manifested in the form of high blood pressure, chest pains, palpitations and poor circulation.

It didn't take a medical degree to know that I had a genetic disposition toward degenerative heart disease!

It struck in 1992 when I was 58 and some would say that the story of Wings Organic Heart Formula began that cold Canadian February day as I dropped to my knees on the front steps of our Okanagan home, my chest held in a tightening vice of pain as I fought for every breath. But I think their real origin lay part buried in a childhood memory of another place, another culture, another time.

Evacuated from London at the height of the Blitz, I spent most of the war years in the Scottish borders, in the care of my maternal grandmother who was the village herbalist. She was steeped in the ancient tradition of Celtic herbal medicine and I grew up amidst the smell of tinctures, embrocations and drying herbs as she taught me of natural remedies for sickness and disease that had stood the test of time.

For the first few years following my heart attack nothing was further from my mind than herbal medicines but after three periods of hospitalisation, numerous ECGs, an angiogram - and following years of seemingly endless pills, blood work, stress tests and specialist visits - I began to question whether my steadily deteriorating cardiovascular health and breathing problems couldn't better be reversed by adding a complementary method of treatment.

The roles played by garlic, hawthorn and bilberry as aids to treating, curing and preventing heart problems had been recognised in Scotland and many parts of Europe since the time of the Roman invasions. The addition of cayenne and ginger as anti-coagulants that followed the development of the spice trade in the mid-1800s helped create a powerful healing tincture with which I was well familiar.

When Peter Bailey, a close friend and local entrepreneur with broad international marketing experience, showed me a BC-made proprietary heart formula that contained many of these ingredients I was wildly excited. Unfortunately, despite an abundance of local sources in our beautiful Okanagan valley, the major ingredients of this tincture proved to be cheap foreign imports - and none of them organic - while poor quality processing left as much as 50% of the depleted residue still visible in the bottle.

Peter and I went into partnership and concerned about the possibility of liver damage from herbicides and fungicides, we sought help in creating a Heartdrop that used only certified organic or wild-crafted herbs. Our intent was to produce the finest heart formula in the world and we knew we were doing something right when things began to fall magically into place. Local farmers offered us third-party certified organic garlic ready for gathering and we discovered wild hawthorn in abundance throughout the local area. Even bilberries, it turned out, were being harvested by the ton in BC ! Our local naturopathic doctor proved highly supportive and gave us wise council. Peter quickly found investment funding and a highly qualified bio-chemist who would undertake production in state-of-the-art facilities only a few hours away.

The result was Wings Organic Heart Formula.

I took them for a four-week trial period, with remarkable results. Amazed at the improvement they saw in my health and appearance, friends, neighbours and colleagues began asking for it - and raving about it! Within days of completing our test marketing in 1999 a local health food store placed the first order. Soon we had a Distributor and were obtaining orders and receiving testimonials from across North America. We were in business!

Today, in our fifth year of operation we field enquiries from around the world and ship to a steadily growing number of foreign markets. Our mission remains unchanged;
